And the things that happened in that 33% were important and set up the foundation of Shawn and Bobby’s personalities, why they thought the way they did, but a lot of it became repetitious, and that theme continued through the entire book, but it was less noticeable in the last 2/3 of the book, probably because we were finally getting into the love story. I’m glad I didn’t because it turned out to be an exceptional story. If I had not been reading it for a review, I would have set it aside. That’s how far I was in the book before it started getting good. I can’t tell you the number of times I was saying things like, “Oh, my gosh.”, “No. In short this book is an all enclusive journey of self discovery, sexuality and love.Īs I was reading this story I couldn’t help but wonder if Erno was drawing form his own experiences growing up, because these emotions and experiences in this book were very genuine.

There was a point in the book where I had to skip ahead a chapter. (It wouldn’t be romance if they didn’t!)īoth boys have a history that makes it difficult for them come to terms with their sexuality, but if they’re lucky, they might find love and support they need to make it, before something tragic happens. They become inseparable almost immediately, and fall in love. They spend several years hovering in each other’s periphery until one day they collide. Shawn believes homosexuality is a sin, and Bobby is “just too cool to be gay”.
